Its goal is to further develop battery technologies along the entire value chain – from materials and cell production to application and recycling.
Münster boasts more than 15 years of battery expertise, over 400 scientists, more than 150 research projects, and funding exceeding one billion euros. The close collaboration between research and industry raises the location's international profile.
The BATTL³ is the new collaborative research facility exclusively for entrepreneurial battery research in Münster. International companies can establish themselves here and, either alone or together with the partners of BatteryCityMünster, further develop and scale their technologies.
Activities range from materials research and cell design to production and scaling research, industrial application, recycling, and digitalization.
Münster Technology Promotion supports companies with office and laboratory space, with relocation and investment projects, with networking and battery-specific community management, and in initiating publicly funded research projects.
Yes. Companies can rent office, lab, and development spaces in buildings such as Technologiehof Münster, NBZ, BioZ, or in the future BATTL³, and become part of the battery ecosystem. We also support new ventures, for example, establishing a German subsidiary.
BatteryCityMünster collaborates with international research and industry partners and is part of European innovation and transfer networks in the field of battery and storage technologies, such as Tech.Land, a cross-border German-Dutch innovation ecosystem for connecting business, science, and politics in future technologies.
Key partners include the MEET Battery Research Center at Münster University, the Fraunhofer FFB, the Helmholtz Institute Münster, the IWARU at Münster University of Applied Sciences, as well as other scientific and industrial stakeholders from the region.
BatteryCityMünster is aimed at startups, scale-ups, and industrial companies already active in the battery sector – for example, in materials, components, production, recycling, or digitalization – as well as those looking to enter this future market.
Companies benefit from direct proximity to leading battery research, specialized lab and office spaces, a strong and trustworthy network, access to highly specialized skilled workers, and short distances between science, industry, and the public sector.
