BatteryCityMünster unites leading institutions and companies from various areas of the battery value chain – from materials research and cell production to applications.
Fraunhofer Research Facility for Battery Cell Production FFB
The Fraunhofer FFB, along with the PreFab and the factory currently under construction, forms the heart of industrial-scale battery cell production in Germany. In Münster, new production processes are researched, scaled, directly implemented, and evaluated for their economic and ecological sustainability – a bridge between science, technology, and industry.
IWARU – Infrastructure – Water – Resources – Environment
IWARU researches innovative processes for the recovery of battery raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. The focus is on mechanical processing, pre-sorting by cell chemistry, and strategies for effective, sustainable battery recycling – with the aim of conserving resources and closing material loops.
E-Lyte
E-Lyte specializes in next-generation electrolytes, including lithium, sodium, and supercapacitor systems. Founded in Münster in 2019, the company combines research expertise with in-house production to deliver tailor-made solutions for tomorrow's storage technology.
8inks
8inks is a deep tech spin-off from ETH Zurich and is bringing a completely new coating process to Münster with its patented Multilayer Curtain Coating technology. The technology enables higher energy density, shorter charging times, and greater safety – scalable for electric mobility and stationary applications.
Cabot Corporation
Cabot is a global supplier of conductive additives for lithium-ion batteries. With products like carbon nanotubes and conductive carbons, Cabot improves electrical conductivity and cycle stability – essential for modern energy storage in vehicles, homes, and industry.
Matthews Engineering
Matthews Engineering develops and produces high-precision machinery for battery manufacturing – from calendering systems for wet-processed electrodes to specialized equipment for dry coating. The company bridges lab development and industrialization, offering solutions for all steps of battery cell production.
Aumann
Aumann is a technology leader for automated production lines in battery assembly. Leveraging expertise in electrode coating, module, and pack manufacturing, the company delivers turnkey systems for e-mobility and energy storage – scalable, precise, and industry-ready.
Seine battery systems
The company develops high-performance battery systems for industry, focusing on longevity, ease of maintenance, and energy efficiency. It covers a large part of the value chain: from system development and operation to recycling.
REACH – EUREGIO Startup Center
REACH is the central platform for research-based startups in the Münster region. Together with its local partners, REACH connects science, startups, and industry – such as through the "Energy Transfer" event format and targeted funding programs for innovations in battery technology.

Technologieförderung Münster GmbH (TFM) is the driving force behind Battery City Münster. It launched the initiative, coordinates activities, and strategically guides its development through investments in new infrastructure, dedicated cluster management for battery systems, and close cooperation with research institutions.

BATTL3
From Q4 2027
BATTL3 is a new cooperation building for the battery industry. It is not purely a research building, but a place where companies can establish themselves and advance projects together with partners from the ecosystem – with short distances, shared networks, and a clear focus on transfer, scaling, and industrial implementation.

The new building offers approximately 1,600 m² of space for up to five small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the battery sector. This specialized building is equipped to current standards for cooperative cutting-edge research, featuring chemical laboratories, hazardous material storage, modern ventilation systems, office spaces, and areas for installing a dry room. Companies, including international partners, can apply for space.

T-Hof / NBZ / BioZ
Technology Park Münster (T-Hof)
The Technologiehof offers flexible office, laboratory, and technical spaces for startups, scaleups, and technology-oriented companies. Its close proximity to universities, research institutions, and network partners creates ideal conditions for growth, development, and collaboration.

Nano-Bioanalytics Center (NBZ)
The NBZ targets research-intensive companies focusing on analytics, materials, and high-tech applications. In addition to specialized laboratory spaces, companies benefit from shared infrastructure and access to high-quality equipment.

Münster Biotechnology Center (BioZ)
The BioZ offers modular laboratory and office spaces for companies with high technical requirements. The infrastructure supports work up to S2 laboratory standards, cleanrooms, and GMP-related applications – ideal for technology-driven development projects.
